Frequently Asked Questions
How do I uninstall Quality Time?
Quality Time locks the uninstall file while it is running to prevent unauthorized uninstallation. To uninstall, you must log in as the administrator, and then exit the program. You can then safely uninstall.
How do I upgrade Quality Time?
First, go to the registered users page, and enter your order number. A download should start. Then, after you've saved the file to disk, log in as the administrator, and then exit Quality Time. Then, You can then safely install a newer version on top. All of your existing accounts will be preserved.
Why doesn't Quality Time start after I install it and restart my computer?
If you are running Ad-Aware it may be because you are blocking access to the registry. You need to allow registry changes because Quality Time needs to modify the startup section of the registry. You can find more details on the Ad-Aware support forums.
I just want to limit usage to times of the day. How do I do that?
- Log in as the administrator.
- Select the user whose times you want to limit, and double click.
- Place a check in the box that says "This user uses a unique set of time periods" if each user has different times.
- Set "Time Every Day" in the morning to 24:00 (i.e. an entire day)
This has set up the user so they cannot ever use up their time band. Now, to set the times allowed everyday, press the Settings... button, and choose Set Allowed Times. Fill in the start and end times the PC is allowed to be used. This will set the times for every day of the week.
If you want to fine tune the bands, use the probited option below the time picker, and click to prohibit. If you want to extend the time, choose morning, and click to add extra times.
Can Quality Time limit each user to different times of the day?
Yes. To enable each user to have their own set of times, make sure "This user uses a unique set of time periods" is checked. If the box is not checked, changes affect all users that don't have their own set of times.
How can we use multiple accounts on the computer?
If you are running Windows 95, 98 or ME, and have the Windows Family Logon selected, so you are presented with a list of users, then all you need to to is use the log-off user button. This will also log off the user from Quality Time.
If you are running Windows XP, and fast user switching is switched on, then all that needs to be done is to switch users, using the WINDOWS+L key even if Quality Time is on top. There is no need to log off. Your time will stop counting down automatically.
How do I get rid of the Hibernate or Shutdown button?
Click on the Settings Menu, and click on Allow Shutdown if the check mark is visible. The button will disappear.
What happens if I forget the administrator password?
The administrator password is very important, and you should make an effort not to forget it. There are no back doors into the software, so if you forget it there is little you can do to get around it. When you purchase the software, included with your receipt will be instructions for an emergency workaround. Please print this out, and keep a copy somewhere safe.
The program has no back doors, in order to prevent unauthorized access to the computer-the whole point of the product in the first place. Our view is that if there are no back doors, then no one can use them as a security hole.
Why can children get around the program with CTL+ALT+DEL?
If you are running on Windows XP or Windows 2000, and a user is a member of the administrators group, there is no way to stop them killing processes. This is a requirement for system security--otherwise, it would be possible to run a program that took control from any administrator who ran it.
For information on how to secure your system, and remove administrator rights from your children, please read our web page on Securing Your System
What happens if someone turns the computer off?
Quality Time will have recorded the time used for that user to the latest second. However, turning a computer off without shutting down properly is always a bad idea, and can cause problems. Because of this, the software includes a shutdown computer button, which can be used without the need for logging in.
How do you stop the clock from counting down?
If you need to walk away from the computer to answer the phone or for some other reason, you can click on the Quality Time icon on the taskbar. While the Quality Time window fills the screen, no time is deducted from the logged in user. To switch back to another program, either use ALT+TAB to cycle between the other programs, or press CTRL+ESC to show the start menu and the task bar.
Why does the computer keep logging me off?
New from version 3.52, Quality Time automatically logs you off after the period of inactivity specified for your screen saver. You may not have a screen saver set, but this timeout is still valid. To adjust it, go to the control panel, and choose Display, then select the screen saver tab. Next, select a screen saver, and then set the timeout. Afterwards you can then set the screen saver back to none, and then choose OK. Quality time will now use the new timeout value.

What happens if someone changes the current time to try to get more time?
